Weather, wind and water
Next month's opportunities - November 2026
- Bull trout on the Elk and Kootenay. Fall is prime bull trout time - streamers and whitefish-egg patterns behind the spawn, before winter slows the rivers.
- Kootenay Lake rainbows come shallow. Cooling water brings the big Gerrard rainbows and kokanee within reach - trollers pick away off the points all month.
- Stocked lakes before the cap. Moyie and the smaller stocked lakes fish well until ice-up - watch the stocking report for this fall's plants.
Updated monthly - plan ahead, fish the window.
Ice safety: be confident about ice thickness before going out on any ice. Check it yourself, in several spots, every trip - ice varies lake to lake and day to day, and no report can tell you it is safe. When in doubt, stay off.
